The new Bus Station of Malaga, is located in the old manor of the Works of Renfe. This is a residual floor of the Railway Station itself where it was intended to solve the implementation of an important Bus Station, which together with the Railway Station make up the great knot of communications of the city, and at the same time solve the conflict Historical “physical barrier” that has meant this site in the road continuity and urban development of the city. Therefore, a double question arises in this project: to resolve the location of an architectural proposal for a Bus Station, and to solve the urban problems that affect this conflictive point of the city.
On the one hand, the need to propose an architectural solution that could solve the problems of management and road connections between the two sides of the “Channel” of the railroad, by means of an “urban” proposal in which its own alignments Interior and exterior) generate a series of public spaces, squares, pedestrian itineraries … that enhance the necessary road and pedestrian connection required by this sector City with its adjoining areas and with the Railway Station itself. In this sense, we could define the whole of the proposal as a real “urban building” where its “interior” and “exterior” spaces are integrated through the pedestrian walks that take place inside and outside the building the authentic extensions of the “Urban Street “. They are pedestrian itineraries that at the same time structure the interior of the building, solve the road connections between the different sectors of the city. On the other hand, achieving the necessary balance between “economy and durability” of the work carried out, Rigorous industrial standardization of the building process and rationalized design of its constructive elements.
The choice of suitable basic materials that could act both structural elements and covering the building (brick and panel) and the rationalization of the design of the construction process, thought of the very conditions of use of these materials, would be the main characteristics of The building process of this project. Finally, it was a question of referring the proposal to the visual and urban axes of the city, so that in its condition of “public equipment” it regains the capacity to symbolize its forms due to the new conditions of production of City in the urban Planning of this sector.
