On 13 November 2025, the official inauguration of the European University of Andalusia in Malaga was celebrated with the investiture ceremony of the Honourable Rector, Mr. Daniel Hormigo, and attended by His Excellency Mr. Francisco de la Torre, Mayor of the city of Malaga, who, together with a large group of guests, attended this important ceremony marking the start of the 2025-2026 academic year at the European University of Andalusia in Malaga.
The design of the architectural proposal is functionally similar to a ‘small city’ within the city of Malaga in its Teatinos district, adjacent to the large facilities of the Hospital Clínico, the City of Justice and the University of Malaga Campus. Its proximity to the public transport network connects it with the rest of the city’s urban areas and the territorial conurbation of its Costa del Sol.
Its teaching spaces are distributed along a central axis that acts as a ‘street-gallery’, connecting the various teaching spaces with the “squares” and garden areas of the ‘Park’ that structures the layout of the complex, thus facilitating the continuity and spatial relationships required by an educational complex of this nature.
The building has a floor area of 27,000 m2 and was constructed using industrialised building systems. Innovative construction processes enabled it to be completed within the planned 12-month timeframe thanks to the joint efforts and teamwork of the construction company SACYR, the supervision of CBRE, the Technical Services of the EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY and the technical team of ESTUDIO SEGUÍ, together with the engineering firms FRINAR and FASTER.
The methodologies and technical actions employed, both in architectural and industrial design and in the construction processes, were integrated into BIM (Building Information Modelling) systems which, together with technological innovations in construction systems, facilitated the necessary control and monitoring to guarantee the technical and economic objectives within the scheduled execution times.
