Last May 14th, the Generalitat Valenciana and the Universitat Politécnica de Valencia convened a SYMPOSIUM which, led by the Architect and Professor José María Lozano, as president of the Consell Valenciá de Cultura, aimed to recover the territorial planning for the solution of the problems of metropolitan Valencia. Several specialists in urban planning, environment, economics and communication were invited to discuss criteria and opportunities to move towards the territorial model of a “Metropolitan Valencia” capable of overcoming not only the events caused by the cold drop (DANA) last October, but also as an effective and sustainable initiative before its new future challenges. More than 30 municipalities in the metropolitan area of Valencia share the great challenges of their territorial scale planning, where infrastructures, new centralities, residence and work, mobility, water, sanitation, waste management… require greater supra-municipal coordination, which without renouncing local autonomy could be the key to improve coexistence and collective welfare from the territorial scale of its Metropolitan Area.
