NEW TORREMOLINOS GENERAL PLAN

On 22 May 2025, Torremolinos Town Council awarded the contract for the drafting of its new General Urban Development Plan to the technical team formed by Buró 4, Ibermad and Estudio Segui, on the basis of the public tender called for this purpose.

Under the guidance of the Municipal Government and the collaboration of its Technical Services, the aim is to bring this exciting work to a successful conclusion, defining the strategic projects capable of dynamising not only its urban activities and the solutions to its most immediate problems, but also of qualifying its tourist offers on the national and international circuits.

Torremolinos was the reflection of the most important modernity of the 60’s in the Mediterranean tourist circuits. A city that was born as an icon of tourist development, marking the beginning of the Costa del Sol, became its periphery due to the trivialisation of its model. In the midst of the crisis of its tourist model, Torremolinos begins the drafting of its new General Plan as an opportunity to rebuild its urbanity from the recognition of its complexity and diversity, recovering its identity of modernity that characterised it. It is not a matter of restoring the myth from memory, but of reinterpreting it and rethinking it from the search for its future.

The new General Plan of Torremolinos tries to recover not so much the nostalgia of a past, but the vibrant spirit of those years to find in its references the exciting continuity towards a future to which Torremolinos legitimately aspires as the ‘Centre of Modernity’ of the Costa del Sol. As a working methodology in the drafting process, an initial phase has been established which, as a ‘didactic introduction’, attempts to present, in the form of ‘trailers’, some important urban actions that contributed to reflecting the modernity with which the city responded to the demands that arose in the early 1960s and which it now intends to reinterpret with the drafting of its new General Plan.
